Union Gas Pipeline Proposal
In the fall of 2007, business owners along the Hamilton Road corridor were shocked to receive notice from Union Gas of their intention to dig up our street and build a new pipeline from Veteran’s Memorial Parkway down to the London District Energy Plant on Colborne Street. The preferred route was to come up Hamilton Road all the way from Gore Rd. to Colborne. Most who we talked to thought this was already written in stone or, as they say, “a done deal.”
The cost of this disruption to businesses along Hamilton Road, especially those who rely on traffic flow, would no doubt cause undue economic stress and given the disruptions that have already taken place over the last couple of years, there was little doubt some might very well not last out.
The purpose of business associations like ours is to use our collective strength with all levels of governments to ensure our concerns are taken into consideration whenever events or policies negatively affect members.
We took immediate action, attended all the public meetings, filed the necessary reports and had private meetings with the decision makers for this project and local politicians. Largely through the efforts of your executive and the many members who took the time to write personal appeals, the preferred route has now been changed as of Jan 08. It will now follow the route we recommended and parallel the river instead of coming up Hamilton Road.
So much for “done deals”

Youth Green Thumb Project
Your Hamilton Road Area Business Association teamed up with our youngest members, the local Youth Job $quad, to enhance the look of our street-scape. This partnership resulted in the beautification of 22 business store fronts along our corridor and provided an opportunity for local youth to learn gardening skills, earn a few bucks, and add this summer experience to their resumes for future job searches.

Santa Claus Parade “Toy for Every Girl and Boy” Drive
For six years in a row now your Hamilton Road Business Association has been the only business association in London to participate in the annual Santa Claus Parade. Our “Toy for Every Girl and Boy” drive has become an institution in the parade. Families bring their unwrapped toys to hand off to our volunteers as our float moves by on the parade route. This year we distributed 1,500 gifts to families in London.

Law and Order
We surveyed our membership in depth regarding crime and security concerns in our area. Chief Murray Faulkner addressed our membership at a general meeting this fall. The detailed list of concerns we accumulated were passed on to him directly. Communication lines have now been established and email addresses exchanged. If our membership has any concerns regarding policing or law and order issues affecting our area, they can now be passed on to him directly.
